INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation (IBF) world super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas of Panabo, Davao del Norte left for the United States on Friday to continue his training.
The 29-year-old Ancajas was accompanied in the trip by manager-trainer Joven Jimenez.
“Naga hulat ko sa unification. Ready man pud ko kung musaka sa weight (I am waiting for a unification fight. I’m also ready to fight in the next weight class),” said Ancajas in an interview with The Manila Times.
Ancajas, who has a ring record of 33 wins, one loss, two draws and 22 knockouts, is aiming for a title unification fight with World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka of Japan.
“‘Yan na po hangad namin (That is what we want),” said Jimenez.
Jimenez, however, said they are also open to taking on fighters in the higher division, including Filipino world champions Nonito Donaire in the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight and John Riel Casimero in the WBO bantamweight division.
“Kahit masyadong malapit na ang laban, ready kami lagi (Even on short notice, we are always ready),” said Jimenez, who added that they will never back down from a world title bout.
Ancajas has been a world super flyweight champion since 2016 and has defended the crown nine times.
He last defended the title on April 10, 2021, winning via unanimous decision against Jonathan Javier Rodriguez (22-2, 15 KOs) of Mexico in Uncasville, Connecticut. In that fight, Ancajas floored Rodriguez in the eighth round.
