Finbold, a data analysis firm, has just released a report on consumers’ mobile app spending. And, one thing is clear: the world spent a lot on the Apple App Store—and that’s just in the first half of 2021. In total, consumers all over the world spent $41.5 billion on App Store.
What about Google Play, you ask? Well, people aren’t spending as much as they are on App Store but Google Play still raked in $23 billion. Both App Store and Google Play’s numbers are impressive. In fact, the two platforms were revealed to have recorded a growth of 24.8 percent year-over-year.
Another interesting fact? TikTok was crowned the most grossing app for the first half at $920 million. YouTube and Tinder follow from there at $564.7 million and $520.3 million, respectively. Keep in mind that these numbers are just for the first half of 2021. Damn.
Researchers say that the rise in mobile app spending can be attributed to the pandemic, thanks to all the containment measures.
Though the study says Apple’s App Store is ahead, Google Play is definitely not far behind.
“Although the App Store spending has remained significant, Google Play appears to be catching up by recording the highest growth rate between H1 2020 and H1 2021. Although iOS remained dominant, Android flourished as the pandemic remained persistent in countries with an Android-dense population,” the study says.
